I have worked in construction technology for more than ten years, most of it on live projects, across BIM, 4D planning with SYNCHRO, and real-time visualisation in Unreal Engine and Unity.
On the 4D side, that means linking programmes to models, checking the sequence with the planners who wrote it, and preparing the result for the people who have to use it, from a bid panel to a site team.
On the real-time side, it means scenes, viewers and VR that people can explore for themselves. Along the way I built AR and VR tools for use on live building sites, and learned the difference between a VR demo that impresses in a meeting and one that holds up for ten minutes on a real headset.
All of it taught me what planners, bid teams and clients actually need to see, which is not always what looks best in a still image.
